Foundational Systems TextExpander

Overview

Text expander is an app that allows doctors to “pop” messages into place anywhere on their computer. The protocols for Clearly Select are located within text expander so that doctors receive access.

These protocols are NOT shared in other formats since the protocols are always improving and being updated. It is too inefficient to update protocols with new versions and try to ensure everyone is working off the same set of protocols, and that is why text expander is how we update protocols. When we update the clearly select protocols on our end, it automatically updates them for everyone. This ensures that everyone is “running” the current version!

The cost of text expander is $3.33 per month.

Examples of Text Expander in Action

Clincheck Review

Text Expander can be utilized for reviewing ClinChecks by auto-populating pre-written comments into the notes section, streamlining the review process. Doctors can use different protocols, such as a Long Review, which is primarily used while they are still learning, and an Abbreviated Review for quicker evaluations once they are more experienced. By typing specific shortcuts (e.g., "Review-CS-Long") into the ClinCheck notes, the corresponding checklist is populated automatically.

Case Charting Instructions

In many practices, patient appointments are determined by the aligner number rather than the time required to wear them, accounting for individual patient compliance. TextExpander, when integrated with a system like Trello, enables dental professionals to generate standardized charting instructions by using pre-defined snippets. These snippets are customized to include specific details about the patient's treatment, such as tray modifications, appointment duration, and procedures like placing attachments or performing interproximal reduction (IPR). This systematization helps streamline communication between the dentist and staff, ensuring everyone is aligned on the treatment plan and reducing the likelihood of errors.

The staff can quickly access detailed information about each patient's treatment plan, such as the number of trays, future appointments, and any additional procedures needed. This method not only saves time but also minimizes the chances of miscommunication, as all details are clearly documented and easily accessible to all dental staff. By using a system like the one shown in the video, very little needs to be taught to staff for them to understand how ortho appointments work. As a result, there is a reduction of unnecessary appointments, and increased independent decision making from staff.
